Procedure for cleaning and disinfection of Microbiology Lab.

1.0 OBJECTIVE

To describe a procedure for cleaning of Microbiology Lab.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure is applicable for cleaning procedure in Microbiology Lab.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

3.1 Microbiologist /Officer is responsible for the execution. 

3.2 HOD or designee is responsible for review, effective implementation and compliance the cleaning of microbiology.        

4.0 PROCEDURE 



4.1 Prepare the disinfectant solution as per the current version of SOP. 

4.2 Take the disinfectant solution in two buckets and mark the bucket as 1 and 2.

4.3 Enter into the Laminar Air Flow room through change rooms.

4.4 While cleaning dip the non- fiber shedding mop in bucket No 1 containing disinfectant solution and after each swab squiz the mop in bucket no. 2.

4.5 Do not squiz the mop in same bucket after swab.

4.6 Clean the area daily with Dettol 2.5% or Savlon 2.5% in the following order.

4.6.1 Laminar airflow room and outer surface of Laminar Air Flow and trolley.

4.6.2 Change rooms (change room II and change room I).

4.6.3 Autoclave room.

4.6.4 Media preparation room

4.6.5 Incubator area

4.6.6 Outer surface of equipment’s i.e., autoclave, ovens, incubators, garment chamber and refrigerator etc. and outer surfaces of SS Tables, Change over bench, Trolley,  pass box.

4.6.7 Corridor, Microbiology entrance area and discarding room.  

4.7 Clean the working bench and Laminar Air flow working area bench before and after the work daily by 70% IPA with non- fiber shedding mop.

4.8 Complete the entire procedure of cleaning as per the sequence given in point no.6.6.

4.9 After completion of cleaning discard the disinfectant solution.

4.10 Record the details in Microbiology lab cleaning record as per Attachment # 1. 

4.11 Schedule for use of disinfectant for cleaning

1st to 10th: Dettol 2.5% solution  

11th to 20th: Savlon 2.5% solution  

21st to end of the month: Lysol 2.5% solution  

4.12 For working bench and laminar airflow bench daily with 70% v/v IPA.
