Spring-Cleaning of Microbiology lab Procedure

1.0 OBJECTIVE

To describe a procedure for Spring-Cleaning of Microbiology lab.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure is applicable to the procedure for Spring-Cleaning of Microbiology lab.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

3.1 Microbiologist /Officer is responsible for the execution. 

3.2 HOD or designee is responsible for review, effective implementation and compliance to the spring cleaning for execution.         

4.0 PROCEDURE 



4.1 Put off the entire instrument and cover them with polyethylene sheet.

4.2 Clean the area thoroughly including walls, ceiling, Doors and windows, light fixers with dry mop or vacuum cleaner.

4.3 Start the cleaning of rooms from critical to non-critical area.

4.4 Critical area includes, LAF room and change rooms.

4.5 After dry cleaning follow wet cleaning procedure as below.

4.6 Prepare the disinfectant solution as per the current version of SOP.

4.7 Take the disinfectant solution in two bucket. And mark the bucket as 1 and 2.

4.8 Enter into the LAF room through change rooms.

4.9 While cleaning dip the non- fiber shedding mop in bucket No 1 containing disinfectant solution and after each swab, squeeze the mop in bucket no. 2.

4.10 Do not squeeze the mop in same bucket where the disinfectant is present.

4.11 Clean the area with current disinfectant in use as per the following order,

4.11.1 Laminar Airflow room.

4.11.2 Change rooms (change room II and change room I)

4.11.3 Autoclave room 

4.11.4 Media preparation room

4.11.5 Pass boxes

4.11.6 Incubator room

4.11.7 Corridor, microbiology entrance area.

4.11.8 Media discarding room.

4.12 Complete the entire procedure of cleaning as per the sequence given in point no.4.11

4.13 After completion of cleaning discard the disinfectant solution.

4.14 Record the details in Microbiology lab spring-cleaning record as per Attachment #1. 

4.15 Cleaning Schedule: Once a month and after any maintenance activity related to facility in the lab.
