Ultra violet (UV) lamp validation

 

1.0 PURPOSE

This procedure ensures the efficiency of ultra violet lamp and its ability  to kill the micro organisms and its validation. 

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure covers the preparation of media and the method of validating the UV lamp. 

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

4.0 PROCEDURE

4.1 Medium Nutrient agar medium:

4.2 Composition :

Peptone 0.5gm

Yeast extract 0.15gm

Beef extract 0.15gm

Sodium Chloride 0.5gm

Agar 2.0gm

Distilled water 100ml

4.3 Suspend all the ingredients in 100ml distilled water.  

4.4 Sterilize at 121degC for 30 minutes.

4.5 Pour 15ml of the medium in to sterile petriplate. 

4.6 Swab the staphylococcus aureus on the medium.

4.7 Expose the inoculated plate to ultra violet lamp for 15 minutes.

4.8 Incubate the place at 37 Deg C for overnight.

5.0 INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS

Absence of growth on the medium indicate the efficiency of Ultraviolet lamp.

Conduct the test for efficiency of  Ultraviolet lamp, once in a month and maintain the records
