1.0 OBJECTIVE
To lay down a procedure operation and maintenance of multicolumn distillation still.
2.0 SCOPE
This procedure is applicable for operation and maintenance of multicolumn distillation still.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Executive - Maintenance &Utilities
3.2 Head - Maintenance &Utilities
4.0 PROCEDURE
4.1 Check whether the main supplies like steam, feed water and cooling water are available and ensure that steam pressure is maintained at 3kg/cm2, and supply of feed water and cooling water are adequate.
4.2 Ensure that the feed raw water tank is filled with Purified water.
4.3 Ensure that all valves are in operation.
4.4 Ensure that there is no water leakage.
4.5 OPERATING PROCEDURE:
4.5.1 Switch on the mains for supply.
4.5.2 Put the main rotary switch “ON” the panel box will receive the supply.
4.5.3 Set the temperature of the inlet steam line to 143degC, distilled water outlet to 95degC, cooling water outlet to 850C, and set the initial distilled water dumping up to 70degC.
4.5.4 And also set required feed water conductivity to 5µs and WFI water conductivity to1µs.
4.5.5 After setting all required data in SET PARAMETERS, start the plant by pressing START.
4.5.6 As soon as the operator presses the START, steam supply valve gets opened if there is sufficient air pressure and required feed water conductivity is available.
4.5.7 Safety valve is set at 6kg/cm2 pressure.
4.5.8 The pressure gauge provided on steam inlet pipeline will indicate steam supply pressure.
4.5.9 Now the steam will enter the heat exchanger of the first column.
4.5.10 Initially the inside air will automatically be vented out through the thermostatic air vent.
4.5.11 The condensate will now start being discharged out through the steam trap.
4.5.12 When the steam temperature reaches to set point, feed water pump will start; initially keep the feed water 2 to 3 LPM by regulating the flow meter.
4.5.13 The feed water will now pass through preheating coil in the cooler: it will be further heated up while passing through successive columns last to first columns.
4.5.14 The dissolved gases of the feed water will escape automatically through the air went provided on the top of the cooler.
4.5.15 The pre heated feed water will enter the first column top, where part of it will be converted into steam.
4.5.16 The evaporated vapour will rise upward and un evaporated feed water which is collected at the bottom will forced to next column under the pressure.
4.5.17 Same procedure will take place in other 3 columns finally the saturated water stream is entered into cooler.
4.5.18 From the cooler finally the pyrogen free sterile distilled water is collected at a temperature of 98degC in WFI storage tank which stands beside the still.
