1.0 OBJECTIVE

To describe the procedure for cleaning and sterilization of glassware used in Microbiology lab.

2.0 SCOPE

This procedure is applicable the procedure for cleaning and sterilization of glassware used in Microbiology Lab.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY

3.1 Microbiologist /Officer is responsible for the execution. 

3.2 HOD or designee is responsible for review, effective implementation and compliance to the cleaning and sterilization of glass ware for execution.         

4.0 PROCEDURE 

4.1 CLEANING

4.1.1 Wash the glassware first with tap water and then with 1%Teepol Solution/ soap solution.

4.1.2 Use purified water to remove the traces of Teepol solution /Soap solution in/on the glassware.

4.1.3 Let the glassware air dry and place them in a closed cupboard.

4.2 STERILIZATION



4.2.1 Sterilize the glassware as and when required.

4.2.2 Sterilize the glassware in Oven at 180°C for 2 hrs or in Autoclave at 121°C as per the requirement of glassware use, as per the current version of SOP.
