Operation and Maintenance of Mobile Phase Filtration Kit

1.0 OBJECTIVE

To lay down the Procedure for Operation and Maintenance of Filtration Kit.

2.0 SCOPE

This SOP is applicable to Operate and Maintain the Filtration kit in Company Name

3.0  BACKGROUND

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY

4.1 All Analytical research personnel shall follow the SOP.

4.2 Group leader Analytical research to ensure proper and safe operation of the equipment.

4.3 Head Analytical research or his designee to ensure overall compliance.                                                            

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 Safety Precautions:

5.1.1 Handle the glassware carefully to prevent breakage.

5.1.2 Use Cut –Resistant gloves while washing or handling the filtration kit. 

5.1.3 Don’t switch on the apparatus with wet hands.

5.2 General cleaning:

5.2.1 Clean the apparatus with cleaning solution.

5.2.2 Clean the apparatus carefully to prevent breakage.

5.2.3 After cleaning dry the apparatus. 

5.3 Operation procedure:

5.3.1 Filtration kit consist of

1. 1L Glass Receiving flask

2. 300 ml glass funnel

3.  Glass membrane

4.    Filter support clamp

5.3.2 Set the Glass membrane support on receiving flask properly and keep the filter (0.45µm or 0.2µm) on the membrane and set the glass funnel upon it and fix clamp for supporting glass funnel to glass membrane.

5.3.3 Pour the solution / Buffer to be filtered in to the glass funnel.

5.3.4 Switch on the vacuum pump which was connected to the glass membrane through tubing to start filtration process.

5.3.5 After completion of the filtration process switch off the vacuum pump.  

5.3.6 First remove the clamp, glass funnel and next remove the filter on membrane to reduce suction pressure in flask.

5.3.7 Remove the glass membrane carefully and collect the filtered solution from receiving     flask.

5.3.8 Further clean and dry the filtration kit carefully.

5.4 Maintenance:

5.4.1 Glassware should be handled carefully.

5.4.2 Clean the filtration kit after usage.
