Preparation and Standardization of 0.01M Lead Nitrate

1.0 OBJECTIVE

To lay down the procedure for the Preparation and Standardization of 0.01M Lead Nitrate.

2.0 SCOPE

This SOP is applicable to Preparation and Standardization of 0.01M Lead Nitrate  in company.

3.0 BACKGROUND

NIL

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY

4.1 QC-Chemist

4.2 Head-QC

5.0 PROCEDURE

5.1 Preparation:
Dissolve 33.12 g of Lead nitrate in sufficient water to produce 1000 ml.

5.2 Standardization:
Pipette 50 ml of the solution of lead nitrate into a flask, add 50 mg of xylenol orange mixture and sufficient hexamine to produce a violet pink colour and titrate with 0.1 M disodium edetate to a lemon yellow end point.

Each ml of 0.1M disodium edetate is equivalent to 0.03312 g of Lead nitrate

5.3 Calculation

=      Molarity of the 0.1M Disodium Edetate x Burette reading of EDTA Solution
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Volume of lead nitrate solution taken

Note:
1) Restandardise before use.
2) Discard the solution after 30 days.
3) For storage and labeling follow the general procedure.
